So this is who I am – a writer that paints, a painter that writes…

In pursuit of grace.

First, let me offer my apologies to Mr. Portier for my morning sketch. Not the perfection he deserves, but I suppose only he could carry the elegance that was him and him alone.

Anyone can buy a suit, but some people know how to wear it. You could put the same suit on almost anyone, but only a few will highlight it with a spirit of grace. And that’s the way I always saw him, Sidney Portier, a man of grace. Confident. Secure in his talent. Secure in his being. Always standing tall, because of the high road, never the high horse — he didn’t need it.

I can only think of a couple of movies. A few lines. But in the end, it is the elegance of the man I will remember. The dignity of a life well lived. And I guess that’s all we have, any of, not what we do, but how we do it, that will be remembered.

And so I keep doing. Daily sketches. Daily paintings. Daily words. Daily living. Searching for the grace, in it all.
